HP Image Zone and Windows 7

If you have an HP printer and enjoy the free Image Zone software that comes with it, beware of upgrading to Windows 7.

HP Image Zone does not work on Windows 7. There is no fix, no workaround and no Windows 7 driver. HP doesn’t support the software any more, and has no intention of writing updated drivers for it. There is no later programme they offer that offers anything near the functionality.

I Googled this subject to death recently and this is the cast iron result. MS knows all about these type of issues and has something called an “XP Compatibility Pack” that is supposed to solve these problems.… Click here to continue reading this article

Landsbanki Guernsey Depositors To Get Another 17.5% Of Their Money Back

Depositors in the unsecured Guernsey-based Landsbanki Bank that went bankrupt after the corrupt Icelandic government pulled the plug on it by nationalising its parent company in 2008 are to receive another 17.5% of their money back in February 2011.

The administrators Deloitte will be writing to depositors shortly to tell them how to claim the money. Here are the details:

  • The fourth payment of 17.5p/£, which will be made “as soon as possible after 7 February 2011 and after receipt of each depositor’s account details“.  They’ll shortly be writing to depositors about the process for the payment, and including a statement of account as at 19 January 2011.

Guernsey Commissioner’s Meeting 19th Jan 2011 about failed Landsbanki Islands Icelandic Bank

The Landsbanki Depositors Action group has been doing some good work since 2008 in seeking to reunite savers with the Guernsey-based failed Landsbanki Bank (did we mention it was in the very unsafe banking “haven” of Guernsey?) with their cash. Unfortunately, they have sought to exclude some Landsbanki savers from their secret action website because some of  those who wanted to participate were denied entry because they would not disclose personal financial details to the unknown action group proprietors. It is sad that some Landsbanki Guernsey savers were excluded in this way, but thanks to connections made on other websites, with other depositors, some of them are staying in the loop.… Click here to continue reading this article

Tameside General Hospital: Downing St Petition Info Released

How many people signed the Downing Street petition to ask the government to look into Tameside General Hospital?

The answer is six hundred and four! Six hundred and four people who were so concerned by the alarming death rates and poor care at Tameside General Hospital that they wanted a government investigation.

Here was the petition submitted by Mr Paul Gallagher of the Manchester Evening News:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to order an independent investigation into a catalogue of failings at Tameside General Hospital.

The hospital has one of the highest death rates in the country.

DHL Manchester Collection Problems December

Yesterday the 6th December and today the 7th December, DHL have suspended collections from some parts of Manchester. Predictably, one of the areas affected is that covered by the notorious Ashton Service Centre.

DHL have not bothered to tell anyone about this though. Affected businesses have not been informed by DHL and are just sitting waiting for the yellow van to arrive.  It isn’t coming today! Like it didn’t come yesterday!

One of the parcel companies who resell DHL deliveries posted this today on their website:

The recent spout of bad weather and the effects of the backlog from last week continue to cause problems across the DHL Domestic network, their depots and the sorting hubs.

PostFinance in Switzerland Freeze Wikileaks Bank Account Owned by Julian Assange

PostFinance, the Swiss bank has closed the bank account of Julian Assange the Wikileaks founder. The funding of Wikileaks is the American Government’s latest line of attack against the website. “Follow the money” is the oldest line of attack from governments against those with alternative opinions.

Transfer to a Swiss bank was one of the methods listed on the Wikileaks websites as a method of donating to Wikileaks.

Here is the Swiss banks statement as reported today in the Australian newspaper “The Herald Sun”.

Ukraine drops NATO bid

MOSCOW, Nov. 26 (UPI) — Ukraine has dropped its application to become a member of NATO, President Viktor Yanukovych said Friday at a news conference in Russia.

Appearing with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Yanukovych said Ukraine has decided to remain a non-aligned country, RIA Novosti reported. Yanukovych said Ukraine hopes to remain a NATO partner while allying itself with Russia as well.

Yanukovych replaced the more Western-oriented Viktor Yushchenko in February. The country applied to join NATO under Yushchenko.

Medvedev praised Ukraine’s decision.

“In our opinion, it is a logical development of events, and we believe that it meets the interests of the existing European security system as well as Russia’s long-term development interests,” Medvedev said.… Click here to continue reading this article

The state of Hawaii has brought to law the “International Matchmaking Organization (IMO)” rules. Men in Hawaii now need to submit fingerprints in order to fulfil the rules if they want to seek out a foreign wife from overseas. This is an extension to the existing USA IMBRA laws that is specific to Hawaii.  Individual US states are now taking up the charge in regulating so called “International Marriage Brokers” — and their statutes are more onerous than the federal legislation. I have mentioned a few times of late that there are changes coming across the mail-order-bride industry. There are. They are now on the horizon and looming into view.

I believe the industry in its current form is dying a rapid death.
