Is this the real reason Putin has secured Crimea?

Today, prime Minister Medvedev in his meeting had this to say:

Last December we signed a few documents that have not been amended or cancelled by anyone. This includes the project to build a transport corridor via the Gulf of Kerch.

This is an important issue. Naturally both Russia and Ukraine are interested in a reliable and inexpensive link between the Taman Peninsula and Crimea that will help them open additional trade channels and develop joint investment projects. So in order to continue acting in this direction I’ve signed a Government directive on transferring the functions of the customer to a joint stock company that will deal with the relevant issues.

In this context, the power relationship is that of Putin shaking Obama’s hand at the G20 with his hand above Obama’s, palm facing down and with his left arm grasping Obama’s right arm in a firm grip on his bicep. When leaving Russia, I always aim to arrive at the airport an hour before I would in the west in order that the inefficiency I have come to expect can move at its own speed and I might actually make the plane. So I arrived almost three hours before the flight was due to leave.

My wife is fond of telling me “people” earn £200 a month in Russia. I don’t know why she says this, as I never met anyone I supposed was on £200 a month for a long, long time. Eating Out in Togliatti.

When you visit a place, you don’t really want to start cooking do you? So restaurants are going to feature. However, in my experience, this is something Russia hasn’t quite got to grips with yet.

We went in two places that had been previously OK that now have insect issues. One had beetle type things creeping around the corners, and the other some insect ran out of the menu at me as I opened it. I have just returned from a visit to Togliatti, so I thought I would make a few notes about the changes I see in this lesser visited part of Russia as an occasional visitor.

I always found Moscow a bit of a pain to connect internally through (although I gather it has improved since I last went through there), and the flight is shorter from the UK to Frankfurt and from there to Samara. Plus the FRA-KUF route is served by Lufthansa and not Yuri Air so is usually on time and half decent. And being a German airline, the luggage usually arrives at the same time as me. Или не в Китае , или в Мексике. Или где-бы -то ни было еще. Спрашивала я тут разный народ, и пришла к выводу, что большинство людей имущих (кто может позволить себе путешествие в тур за здоровьем в другую страну) свято верят, что в Америке самая- пресамая медицина. Ну, а те, у кого дженег на путешествия нет.. у тех денег ни на что нет и они “вынуждены есть то, что дают”.

Про араба и генерала

Она не верила в сайты знакомств до тех пор, пока мой муж чуть ли не силком заставил ее выслать ему ее любимую фотографию и сам собственноручно открыл ей страничку на том самом сайте, где мы встретили друг друга (www.luckylovers.net) Указал ее возраст- написал ей в анкете какие-то интересы …и она стла ждать.

Мужчины кинулись писать часто и много. Но она совсем не знала английского, а тех курсов, на которые она ходила чуть ли не целых два года, как оказалось, недостаточно даже для элементарного понимания. Западным мужчинам же хочется романтики. Хочется видеть женщину по вебкамере и кричать ей по Skype какая она прекрасная и слышать что-то в ответ.… Click here to continue reading this article

Положение рубля достаточно стабильно, однако без доллара России не обойтись, считают эксперты

Депутат Госдумы от фракции ЛДПР Михаил Дегтярёв подготовил законопроект, запрещающий оборот и хранение долларов США на территории России. В документе подчёркивается, что ограничения коснутся исключительно американской валюты, а евро, фунты стерлингов, юани и др. будут использоваться так же, как и раньше.

Политик полагает, что сейчас позиции доллара нестабильны и валюта не застрахована от краха. Дегтярёв с помощью такого законопроекта планирует оградить россиян от финансового кризиса, который может быть спровоцирован резким падением курса доллара.

Road Trip From the UK to Estonia and Back.

I recently had some business to do in Estonia. Flying there wasn’t really an option as I had some bulky stuff to transport. Additionally, I wanted to buy something there that is commonplace there but overpriced in the UK: A sauna.

So, I decided to drive there from Manchester to Tallinn.

Peter Hitchens: If Not Putin, Who?

Peter Hitchens is UK Daily Mail columnist. I tend to find him a bit ‘holier than thou’ and he usually writes in such a finger wagging style, and from such a moral high ground that you would think he never ran a red light or parked on a yellow line even.

The Best Honey in the World: Russian Honey

I was recently waxing lyrical about honey from Russia and Estonia. A guy said to me:

Odd. Please explain why. Apis mellifera is an Apis mellifera in the UK or Russia. Honey depends primarily on the flowering plant from which the nectar is gathered. Usually the local vegetation is so diverse that honey is honey. In the South we have periods when certain blooms predominate yielding small quantities with a special flavor in high demand (sourwood honey, tupelo honey).

Visit to a Russian Girl in Penza, Russia.

One day before Miss Penza and I had a very strong discussion and fight in a 3 way call with the help of Ladagirl I did not know if she would be there at the airport in Penza or not, but I decided to go anyway.

Flight from Mexico City to Madrid took around 11 hours, later I waited at Barajas airport more time and the flight to Moscow with Iberia was delayed around 5 hours….. finally I arrive to Moscow with 5 hours of delay….. the guy at Russian customs was taking all the time in the world to check the visas and passports… after customs one guy had my name on a card he was the contact from the travel agency he spoke English and told me to hurry because the flight to Penza was about to leave……..… Click here to continue reading this article

A Trip to Samara, Russia to Meet a Russian Girl

I decided to use frequent flyer miles for a trip to Russia in June. The only days that were available included the maiden voyage of Delta flight 46 from Atlanta to Moscow nonstop on June 1st. I used Infinity.ru to book the tickets for Samara – $120 roundtrip.

Like most Americans, the amount of vacation time I have is small; I only get 96 hours a year for vacation (10 days + 2 floating holidays).
